Looking Back, Looking Forward

As our nation marks its 250th anniversary this year, I’m fascinated by the story of our beginnings—the ideals of the Revolution, the courage of the founders, and the bold experiment of a nation built on liberty. Yet, it is easy to feel troubled. Division, uncertainty, and a drifting away from foundational truths can leave us anxious about what the future holds.

I’m thinking about a familiar yet profound promise found in 2 Chronicles 7.14:

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Notice that God’s prescription for healing a nation begins not with the halls of government, but with the hearts of God’s people. As we celebrate this milestones, let us move beyond anxiety and commit to specific, faithful prayer:

Pray for Humility: That we would examine our own hearts, trade political hostility for Christ-like love, and seek unity within our communities.

Pray for Wisdom: That our local and national leaders would be guided by integrity, justice, and a commitment to the common good.

Pray for Revival: That our church would be a beacon of hope, grace, and truth in a fractured world.

Our ultimate hope does not rest in a political system, but in the Living God. Let’s celebrate our history by kneeling in prayer for our future. Amen.
